Living a fulfilling life for you may include having a spouse, raising children, being successful in your career, being involved in activities, and enjoying a variety of events. For adults, it is not uncommon to feel “down in the dumps” or like nothing satisfies you at some point in time. And unfortunately, this was increased due to the pandemic, working from home, kids in virtual learning, and concerns about covid. If this feeling persists, it may be time to seek counseling. However, if you are needing some inspiration and direction to get back on the right track, here are a few suggestions to find your L.I.G.H.T.
Look within: What has brought you pleasure in the past? Can you begin doing that again such as painting, building, knitting, reading, playing an instrument, or even watching virtual concerts?
Insight from others: Ask your family and close friends what they see as your strengths. Others may see you doing awesome things when they may seem routine or mundane to you.
Get outside: Breathe in the fresh air. Take a short walk. If you are working from home, stand on the porch and let the sun hit your face. Eat your lunch outside. Find a greenway or park to visit.
Hope: Believe that something good will happen. It may be a challenge some days but keeping in mind that tomorrow is another day can give you hope.
Thanks and Gratitude: Be thankful for what you have and the life you live. When something goes wrong, it can be easier to think everything in your world will come crashing down. Take a look around and list the things you are grateful for – and when you think your list is complete, add one more. A second Thanks and Gratitude is to thank others. By noticing what others are doing and thanking them for their efforts, contributions, and expertise, it can boost your mood.
To begin finding your L.I.G.H.T., start small and grow from there. Having small successes will lead to greater successes.
