Dr. Nicholas Rogers is a psychologist and postdoctoral Fellow with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from George Foxnicholas rogers headshot University in Newberg, Oregon. He has had the opportunity to work with adults and children with mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, and physical disabilities. Dr. Rogers has extensive experience working in various settings, including private practice, community mental health centers, college counseling centers, inpatient facilities, emergency departments, neurorehabilitation clinics, and forensic environments.

Intervention Style: Dr. Rogers employs an integrative approach to therapy and assessment, utilizing multiple modalities and research-backed methods to address the entirety of the individual. His therapeutic techniques include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), interpersonal therapy, and the Gottman Method. Dr. Rogers begins the therapeutic process by obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the individual through the biopsychosocial-spiritual model, allowing him to grasp the client’s values and the complexities of their situation. This client-centered approach ensures treatment is tailored to the specific needs and goals of each individual. Dr. Rogers has formal training in group therapy, individual therapy, sexual issues, neurological assessment, forensic assessment, psychodiagnostic assessment. He believes that with the proper evidence-based tools and guidance, clients can navigate their distress, trauma, and problems, and feel better.

Therapy with Adults: Dr. Rogers has provided both brief and long-term therapy to adults aged 18 to 90, addressing a wide range of disorders, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, severe and persistent mental illness, interpersonal/relational difficulties, sexual issues, trauma, major life transitions, and socialization issues. He has co-facilitated groups for DBT, CBT, and problematic sexual behaviors, and has worked with individuals using similar modalities to process life transitions, grief, and severe and persistent mental illness. Additionally, he has experience working in emergency room settings with individuals in mental health crises.

Therapy with Children: In his work with children, Dr. Rogers’ goal is to help children and teens develop the skills and understanding they need to express themselves in a healthy way and cope with life’s challenges. He uses play and cognitive-behavioral therapies to understand children’s perspectives and teach them new skills. Dr. Rogers develops children and adolescents’ ability to identify and voice their emotions, cope with challenging situations, and communicate their needs in a productive way. He also teaches children and teens perspective-taking and social skills.

Evaluation Experience: Dr. Rogers is skilled in conducting psychological, diagnostic, educational, and neuropsychological assessments for adults across the lifespan, as well as forensic assessments. He has performed evaluations to assess the progression of illnesses such as Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, and dementia, as well as personality disorders, severe and persistent mental health conditions, developmental disorders, learning disabilities, and specific impairments. His forensic assessment experience includes evaluating capacity to proceed, violence risk, risk management, and psychopathy, as well as broad psychological evaluations for use in forensic settings. Some of his unique strengths lie in assessing overall risk of violence, neurological complications (having practiced at UNC Neuro-Rehab Center), and determining an individual’s capacity to proceed to trial.

Research: Dr. Rogers has conducted research focusing on forensic populations. He developed a dataset from an outpatient forensic setting that formed the basis of his dissertation and allowed subsequent dissertations by four colleagues. His initial project also resulted in eight research posters presented at national conferences. Dr. Rogers is currently awaiting approval for a publication in a national journal. His doctoral dissertation examined the influence of personality and trauma on treatment outcomes in the sex offender population.

Personal: Dr. Rogers enjoys novel experiences and often attends local conventions and festivals. He finds creative outlets through hands-on activities and frequently visits comedy clubs, drawn by his love for humor and laughter.
