Mr. Josh Jacomet - Lepage Associates

Josh Jacomet provides individual therapy for all ages, and also offers couples and family therapy. He began his educational journey completing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, studying human movement and its relationship to health, fitness, and performance; he is a member of the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and is a Certified Personal Trainer. This background provided Josh with a solid foundation in the body, physical health, and its relationship to mental health, which he uses with his therapy clients as appropriate. Josh is currently a graduate student completing his M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Intervention Style: Josh strives to create a relaxed, comfortable environment where clients can feel free to be their true selves and speak candidly about their lives. He utilizes an integrated approach to therapy and intervention, incorporating elements from models such as person-centered, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), interpersonal, existential, acceptance and commitment (ACT), and DBT skills. He views each client as unique and thus seeks to gain an in-depth understanding of the client’s life and experiences and how they impact current difficulties, in order to get to the root of the problem, and tailors his therapy approach to best suit each client’s needs. Josh believes in the role of trust in a strong client-therapist relationship; he consistently works from a non-judgmental and empathetic mindset, and works collaboratively with clients to understand presenting concerns, identify goals to meet individual needs, and to develop skills leading to more adaptive functioning and improved quality of life. With children, Josh incorporates creative and play therapy activities to help with self-understanding, expression, relational connections, and problem-solving, and meet developmentally appropriate needs.

Therapy Experience: Josh works with clients of all ages experiencing a broad range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, attention difficulties, bipolar, trauma, substance use, relationship difficulties, life transitions, social skills, self-confidence issues, self-esteem, identity development, and parenting concerns, to name a few. He provides brief treatment or long-term treatment depending on the presenting area of concern. Some of his more specialized experiences include working with intellectually disabled clients and facilitating a process group for the caretakers of intellectually disabled dependents. Josh also enjoys sports psychology and working with athletes of all ages.

Personal: Josh lives in Durham, NC with his wife and their dog, Splash. In his free time, Josh enjoys working on household projects, roasting coffee, reading, and fostering dogs with his wife through Hope Animal Rescue.
