Research Triangle Park, NC

One of the largest research parks worldwide is Research Triangle Park, commonly known as RTP. The research park was named for Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh cities. The Research Triangle Park was founded in 1959, and the research park is over 7,000 acres. The reason why the research park was created was due to the textiles and agriculture industries were not reliable after World War II. Research Triangle Park is home to over two hundred companies that employs over 50,000 employees. The second largest company in the world, IBM, is located here.

Creating the research park was an idea that came to be after different universities started doing their researching together while keeping university graduates in the state of North Carolina.  Research Triangle Park is over 300,000 square feet. One of the largest hosts at the research park is GlaxoSmithKline.

Bob Geolas is the President and the CEO of the Research Triangle Foundation,and in 2015 he announced a fifty million redevelopment plan for the research center. Once the redevelopment has been completed it will allow more room for retail and store outlets, restaurant establishments, and a place for a variety of entertainment. There are also plans for a public commuter rail to be added too. Currently, the universities that are located at the Research Triangle Park include Shaw University, North Carolina Central University, William Peace University, Duke University, Skema Business School, and many more.

There are three buildings that operate within the Research Triangle Park Foundation. The names for the three buildings are The Lab, The Frontier, and The Archie K. Davis Conference Center. Since 2015 there have been over 20,000 visitors to The Frontier doors. The Lab is home to many research and development companies.

Research Triangle Park brings communities together. The research park anchors three large cities and brings companies and universities together to provide progress to the state along with providing jobs to thousands of individuals in the area in the state of North Carolina.
