Online Therapy and Online Psychiatry Provides Remote Access To Mental Health Care For All Ages in NC

These telehealth options for getting help provide the ultimate in convenience and confidentiality! Often people want to get help, but their busy lives don’t allow time to attend an office appointment; cutting out commuting time to and from an office can make therapy or psychiatry something you can fit into your schedule. Great for busy executives, busy employees, or busy moms and dads! Also, it is ideal if you see you are a good match with one of our clinicians, yet you do not live in our area. For people with medical issues that make commuting difficult or impossible, online therapy make getting help possible. Lastly, online therapy is a good alternative to ensure the privacy of individuals who do not want to attend therapy in the community where they live and work.

And research shows it is effective! Read our article on The Benefits of Teletherapy for more information.

Telepsychiatry provides a convenient, affordable means for the residents of North Carolina to receive prescriptions needed for psychiatric medication, also from the comfort of their own home without having to come into an office. Read about our Psychiatry Services for more information on our medication for adults and children.

Rural communities have been using teletherapy successfully for over a decade, so this is not a new or untested mode. The service has many different names. Video Chat Therapy, Online therapy, phone therapy, Skype therapy and more. It is an important vehicle to allow people to be able to engage in and benefit from mental health services when face to face sessions are not possible for any reason. People choose phone or online therapy for many reasons: a busy schedule that does not allow commute time to and from sessions, a long commute, lack of childcare, traveling, being homebound, bad weather with poor driving conditions, or to avoid germs during flu season. Online Therapy Services in North Carolina

  • Remote Therapy via chat

  • Teletherapy via video call

  • Telehealth over the phone

We have offered teletherapy (i.e. online video chat) and phone sessions to our clients who prefer them for over 15 years in North Carolina statewide including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary and the Research Triangle Park areas.  We are well prepared to utilize this option as needed so that you can receive the benefits of service remotely. It can be used with all ages, and in addition to individual sessions, it can be used with couples and families as well.

It is extremely easy to use the video chat therapy option wherein we email you a link that connects you directly and seamlessly to your therapist via a HIPAA-compliant connection. All you need is an Internet connection. Or, if you prefer, you can just use phone minus video for a simple phone call session using telephone therapy. Research shows this is effective in improving mental health symptoms.

Children: While sessions with pre-teen children via video chat provides unique challenges different from a talk-therapy session with an adult or teen, our child therapists have been providing tele-therapy for children for various reasons for many years. They are well-equipped with creative ways to provide services to children via tele-therapy, and not surprisingly, children are typically quite comfortable with electronics and this mode.

Couples and Families: Our online platform allows for multiple people to be in any session, so couples, marriage and family therapy can be provided remotely.

DISTANCE THERAPY – ONLINE THERAPY

Distance therapy is simply psychotherapy provided via this different venue, using online video telehealth. You work with a therapist to address your concerns. It is a good fit for people experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems, such as sadness and depression, grief, general anxiety, social anxiety, anger issues, work or personal relationship issues, attention problems, sleep disorders, adjustment disorders, and personality disorders. It can also be helpful for some presentations of phobias, agoraphobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and trauma; your therapist can help you decide if it is a good fit for you. Like in-office talk therapy, sessions are 45-55 minutes in length and people typically meet once a week in the beginning, then as the problem alleviates, meet less and eventually finish; of course, length of therapy differs for everyone thus you could meet with your psychologist more or less depending on your specific needs. (Distance therapy is not appropriate for people who are suicidal, have an eating disorder, or have severe and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia, severe bi-polar disorder, or any disorder with psychosis.)

TELE-EVALUATIONS

Most psychological evaluations can also be provided remotely via telehealth, with clinical interviews done via video chat and testing done online. Call our office or email for a free consult to see if a tele-evaluation is right for you.
